Bratislava Christmas markets 2026

The Bratislava Christmas markets (Vianočné trhy) are the city’s biggest winter event: wooden stalls across the Old Town squares, hot punch, lokše with goose fat, cabbage soup and live music every evening. Below: 2026 dates, where the markets are, what food and drinks cost, how to get there and what to do with kids.
The short version
The main Bratislava Christmas market 2026 runs from 26 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, daily 10:00–22:00, except 24 and 25 December.
Opening ceremony and tree lighting: 26 November at 18:00 on the Main Square (Hlavné námestie).
The market covers Hlavné, Františkánske and Primaciálne námestie; a separate Old Town market is held on Hviezdoslavovo námestie.
Last season’s prices: punch €3.90–4.50, mulled wine €3.50, lokše €5–6, cabbage soup €7. Drinks come in reusable mugs with a deposit.

The markets are run by the city’s cultural organisation BKIS under the name “Bratislavské Vianoce”. Dates are confirmed on the official city tourism portal. The last weekend before Christmas (19–20 December) is traditionally the busiest — visit on a weekday afternoon if you prefer fewer crowds.
Where the markets are
Hlavné námestie — the main market
The heart of it all: a large tree by the Old Town Hall and rows of stalls with food, drinks, ceramics, wooden toys and decorations. The longest queues for lokše and punch — and the best atmosphere in the evening.
Františkánske námestie — the stage
A few steps from the Main Square. The main stage hosts choirs, music-school students and folk ensembles every evening. The programme is published on the Bratislavské Vianoce website.
Primaciálne námestie — Christmas Forest and family zone
In front of the Primate’s Palace stands the “Vianočný les” — Christmas trees decorated by children from Bratislava schools. From 15 December the trees are given to families and charities. Next to it is the “Prívetivá zóna”: a covered, calm, stroller- and wheelchair-accessible space for families with small children and seniors.
Hviezdoslavovo námestie — Old Town market
A separate market run by the Staré Mesto borough (Staromestské vianočné trhy). It usually opens in late November with its own programme and tree lighting. Exact 2026 dates are announced closer to opening.
Neighbourhood markets
Smaller Christmas markets are also held in Petržalka, Vajnory, Dúbravka, Vrakuňa, Podunajské Biskupice and other boroughs — fewer tourists, lower prices, often weekends only. Check your borough’s website for dates.
Food and drink prices
2026 prices will be known after opening. As a guide, last season’s prices (SME review, 27 November 2025):

Drinks are served in reusable mugs: you pay a deposit (around €2 in past years), refunded when you return the mug to any stall. Many people keep the mug as a souvenir. Waste-sorting stations are placed around the market.
Tip: there is alcohol-free children’s punch (detský punč) as well as the regular kind — ask for detský if it’s for kids.
What to try
- Lokše — thin potato flatbreads, classically with goose fat (husacia masť) and braised cabbage, or sweet with poppy seeds or plum jam.
- Kapustnica — thick sauerkraut soup with sausage and mushrooms, the main dish of the Slovak Christmas Eve.
- Medovina — hot honey mead, a popular alternative to wine.
- Trdelník — rolled dough baked on a spit and coated in sugar and nuts.
- Cigánska pečienka — grilled pork in a bun with mustard and onion.
Getting there and parking
All market squares are in the Old Town pedestrian zone. Public transport is easiest: Námestie SNP, Kamenné námestie and Most SNP stops are 3–7 minutes’ walk away. How to buy tickets is explained in Public transport tickets in Bratislava.
Driving into the centre on December evenings is not worth it: Old Town parking is paid via the PAAS system and spaces are scarce. If you drive, use the underground car park at Eurovea shopping centre and walk (about 15 minutes).
With kids
- From 27 November the “Škriatkovo kúzlo” (Elf’s Magic) game runs across the squares.
- The “Prívetivá zóna” on Primaciálne námestie is a place to warm up, feed a baby and escape the crowds.
- In previous years a Christmas tram (Vianočná električka) ran through the centre; 2026 dates have not yet been announced.
