ENT doctor in Bratislava: how to book, prices and emergencies

A cold that won’t go away, sinusitis, earache, tonsillitis that comes back every few months, snoring, blocked ears after a flight or a hearing test — in Slovakia all of this is handled by an ENT doctor, called ORL (otorinolaryngológ, colloquially “ušné-nosné-krčné”). Below: how to book an ENT in Bratislava on insurance or privately, what it costs, where English-, Russian- and Ukrainian-speaking doctors work, and where to go at night if your child is unwell.
The short version
A private ENT visit in Bratislava costs €80–100, a follow-up €50–69, a child’s visit from €49.
English is spoken at the ENT of Poliklinika Váš lekár in Eurovea (all insurers contracted); Russian and Ukrainian at Doktorpro (Mlynské nivy 10), which is also open at weekends.
Free with a referral from your GP: ENT is not on the list of specialists you can see without one.
At night and at weekends: adults — ENT emergency at Nemocnica Staré Mesto (Mickiewiczova 13), children — 24/7 at NÚDCH (Limbová 1).
How to book an ENT: insurance or private
To see an ENT on insurance you need a referral slip (výmenný lístok). Without one, Slovak insurers only cover a gynaecologist, dermatologist, ophthalmologist, psychiatrist and dentist — ENT is not on that list.

Booking on insurance, step by step:
- See your GP and describe your symptoms. If treatment isn’t working or you need an ear or throat examination with equipment, they will issue a referral to ORL.
- Find an ENT contracted with your insurer (VšZP, Dôvera or Union) — check the clinic’s website or call.
- Call or book online. Larger polyclinics (Váš lekár in Eurovea, ORL centre on Bezručova) have online booking.
- Bring your insurance card, the referral and a list of your medicines.
If you hold temporary protection (odídenec), insurance mainly covers urgent care: acute earache or tonsillitis with high fever usually qualifies, a routine check-up may not. Ask VšZP in advance. The general process is explained in How to see a doctor in Slovakia.
If you are not covered by Slovak public health insurance (for example with some residence permit types), you need commercial health insurance — without it, all tests and treatment are paid in full. You can arrange health insurance for foreigners online in a few minutes.

Endoscopy means looking into the nose and nasopharynx with a thin camera. If you have a chronic runny nose, nasal voice, snoring, or your child keeps breathing through the mouth (suspected adenoids), book a visit with endoscopy included — adding it later costs more.

Contracts with all three insurers — free with a referral. Otomicroscopy, endoscopy, neck ultrasound and balance testing available. Children seen from age 8.
Doktorpro — Russian and Ukrainian, open at weekends
Address: Twin City Tower, Mlynské nivy 10, Bratislava, plus a branch in Ružinov. Phone: 0800 200 000, online booking 24/7. Hours: Mon–Fri 8:00–20:00, Sat–Sun 8:00–18:00 — one of the few places where you can see an ENT at the weekend.
According to the clinic, MUDr. Diana Hudáková (doctor in ENT specialist training) consults in Slovak, Ukrainian and Russian. Adult visit €84, with endoscopy €95, children €52. No referral needed; insurance does not pay.
Medante (Ružinov)

ORL centrum Poliklinika Bezručova (Old Town)

Three ENT doctors, audiometry and tympanometry (hearing tests), video laryngoscopy and minor surgery — endoscopic adenoid removal, myringotomy, laser turbinate surgery. Book online or by phone.

The NÚDCH children’s ENT clinic is the only specialised paediatric ENT ward in Slovakia. Go there if your child has severe earache with fever, a nosebleed that won’t stop, a suspected foreign object in the ear or nose, or difficulty breathing. If a child is choking or turning blue, call 155 or 112 straight away.
What an ENT treats
- Nose: runny nose longer than 10 days, sinusitis (sinusitída), polyps, deviated septum, frequent nosebleeds, snoring.
- Throat: recurrent tonsillitis (angína, tonzilitída), hoarseness lasting over 2–3 weeks, a lump-in-the-throat feeling.
- Ears: pain, discharge, earwax blockage, blocked ears, tinnitus, hearing loss, dizziness.
- Children: adenoids, frequent ear infections, snoring and mouth breathing.
Hoarseness lasting more than three weeks, especially in smokers, and a one-sided blocked nose with bloody discharge are reasons not to delay.
How to prepare
- Note when symptoms started and what you have taken, especially antibiotics and nasal sprays, with names.
- Don’t put drops in a painful ear the day before — the doctor needs to see the eardrum.
- Bring any CT or X-ray of your sinuses on a USB stick or phone.
- Don’t come for a hearing test straight after a loud concert or noisy work — the result will look worse than it is.
