Cardiologist in Bratislava: prices, clinics and how to book

Blood pressure that won’t come down with pills, palpitations, shortness of breath on the stairs, high cholesterol in your lab results or a pre-surgery clearance — in Slovakia all of this goes to a cardiologist (kardiológ). Below are current private cardiology prices in Bratislava, clinics where doctors speak Russian and Ukrainian, what an ECG, echo and Holter cost, and how to see a cardiologist for free on public health insurance.
The short version
A first private cardiology visit in Bratislava costs €70–130, depending on whether a heart ultrasound (echo) is included. A follow-up is €30–80, a stand-alone ECG €10–15.
Russian- and Ukrainian-speaking cardiologists work at Doktorpro (Twin City Tower, Mlynské nivy 10): first visit €90, with echo €130.
Free of charge only with a referral from your GP: cardiologists are not on the list of specialists you can see without a referral.
Chest pain lasting more than a few minutes, sudden breathlessness or fainting is not a reason to book an appointment — call 155 or 112.
Do you need a referral to see a cardiologist?
Yes, if you want your health insurance to pay. In Slovakia you can only see a gynaecologist, dermatologist, ophthalmologist, psychiatrist or dentist on insurance without a referral. Cardiology is not on that list — you first need your GP (všeobecný lekár) to issue a referral slip (výmenný lístok).

Paying makes sense when you need a pre-surgery clearance within a week, your GP won’t refer you while your blood pressure stays high, or you don’t have full Slovak public insurance. For holders of temporary protection (odídenec), insurance mainly covers urgent care, so a planned cardiology visit may not be covered — check with your insurer (usually VšZP) before you go.
If you are not covered by Slovak public health insurance (for example with some residence permit types), you need commercial health insurance — without it, all tests and treatment are paid in full. You can arrange health insurance for foreigners online in a few minutes.

How much does a cardiologist cost in Bratislava?
Prices below come from the clinics’ published price lists (September 2026). The key thing to compare is whether the first visit includes an echo — without it a cardiologist often cannot give a full assessment, and you will pay for the ultrasound separately anyway.

Doktorpro lists a second, lower price next to each service (e.g. €86 instead of €90) — ask about the discount conditions when booking. Kardiosanus’s €250 package already includes blood tests, ECG and echo, which can work out cheaper than paying for each separately if you have no recent results.

According to the clinic, cardiologists Oksana Onyshchuk and Liudmila Pereš consult in Russian and Ukrainian, MUDr. Katarína Adamová in Slovak. First visit without echo €90, with echo €130, follow-up €55, ECG €15. No referral needed — but insurance does not pay either.

The clinic is contracted with VšZP, Dôvera and Union, so you can also come here free with a referral. Self-payer prices: first examination €90, follow-up €40, Holter ECG €20, BP Holter €35, exercise test €80.

Kardiosanus
Cardiology and internal medicine practice in Devínska Nová Ves. Prices valid from 1 June 2026: cardiology examination €150 (without labs) or €250 (with labs, ECG and echo), follow-up €80, exercise test €100. Convenient if you live in the west of the city or work in the Devínska Nová Ves industrial area.
Cardiologist or ambulance?
Book a regular appointment if:
- your blood pressure is regularly above 140/90, even if you feel fine;
- you notice skipped beats, pauses or a racing heart at rest;
- you get short of breath or have swollen ankles with usual activity;
- your cholesterol is high and relatives had heart attacks or strokes at a young age;
- you need a clearance for surgery, sport or a driving licence.
Call 155 or 112 immediately if pressing or burning chest pain lasts more than 5 minutes, spreads to the arm, neck or jaw, or comes with cold sweat, severe breathlessness or fainting. It may be a heart attack, and every minute counts — don’t drive yourself and don’t wait until morning. In Bratislava, the ambulance takes heart-attack patients to specialised centres, above all the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NÚSCH) in Kramáre.
How to prepare
- Bring a list of all medicines you take, with doses — a photo of the packages works.
- Bring previous ECGs, discharge letters and lab results, even from abroad. A translation isn’t required, but numbers and dates should be readable.
- Measure your blood pressure morning and evening for 3–5 days before the visit — it’s more useful than a single reading in the office.
- Wear clothes that are easy to remove from the waist up for the ECG and echo.
- If your Slovak is limited, choose a doctor who speaks your language or bring someone along — an accurate description of symptoms matters.
