Passenger Transport Companies in Slovakia – Travelling in Comfort

Slovakia has beautiful countryside and a convenient location in the centre of Europe, so trips around the country and to neighbouring cities are genuinely enjoyable journeys. Carriers do their best to make the trip comfortable and safe. In this article we look at the main passenger transport companies in Slovakia, their routes, and the rules on luggage, travelling with children and carrying animals.

Slovak Lines — buses across Slovakia and into Europe

Thanks to Slovak Lines and its partners you can travel quickly and comfortably to Vienna (including Schwechat international airport), Prague, Brno, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Udine, Padua, Bologna, Florence and Athens, as well as to cities in Ukraine (Uzhhorod, Mukachevo).

Besides its scheduled routes, the carrier also runs coach trips to concerts and festivals in Slovakia, Hungary and the Czech Republic.

Bratislava — Schwechat airport — Vienna route

This is one of the most popular routes: buses connect Bratislava with Vienna’s Schwechat airport and the centre of Vienna. Check the carrier’s website for the current timetable and fares — they change with the season and with how far ahead you book.

The «Departure Guarantee» service

If you want to be sure of catching your flight from Schwechat airport, you can buy the «Departure Guarantee» service together with your ticket. If something goes wrong, the company undertakes to arrange a timely transfer, and if you miss your flight through the carrier’s fault, the cost of the ticket is compensated up to 1,500 euros.

Travelling with children and carrying animals

Slovak Lines buses have seats for children aged 3 to 9, as well as child seats for those under 3. A folded pushchair may be carried free of charge. On routes to Vienna and Schwechat, anyone under 16 may travel only when accompanied by an adult.

Animals weighing up to 10 kg may be carried in a cage, and the approximate fare for a pet is around 3 euros. For more on the rules for bringing animals into the country, see our article Travelling to Slovakia with a pet: rules and requirements.
